Mesa Sunrise Rotarians toured S.T.A.R. East with Site Manager Cody Sammons. S.T.A.R. helps individuals live the life they love and encourages them to reach their full potential by providing skills to gain employment, enhance social connections, and improve overall wellness. Their visions to eliminate mental health stigma through lived experience and community education. S.T.A.R. East offers services to members Monday to Saturday with a wide range of activities to choose from.

Valentine Surprise for Seniors!
During our club meeting on Wednesday February 7th, 2024, MSR club members assembled Valentine surprise bags for Seniors at Fellowship Square Historic Mesa.
Bags included “vintage” Valentine cards, fuzzy socks, candy, snacks, hand lotion, lip balm and more! Fellowship Square Historic Mesa Executive Director and club member Rena Phillips will deliver to the community seniors for a Happy Valentines Day!

The Mesa Family Advocacy Center: Where police and advocates, Department of Child Safety, Office of Child Welfare Investigations, prosecuting attorneys and on-site physicians work together to reduce the trauma of physical and sexual abuse – where victimization is transformed into empowerment. The Mesa Family Advocacy Center operates as a multi-disciplinary team to provide a coordinated, trauma-informed response to victims of sexual and domestic violence. Mesa Sunrise Rotary was toured by Lt. Bill Peters of the Mesa PD on Oct. 18th 2023. The center opened in 1996 but was recently remodeled, enhancing the services to the community and best practices for officers. Mesa Sunrise Rotary supported Dr. Ruth Tan Lim founder of the Children's Benefit Foundation, Inc. at the annual Week Without Violence celebration of empowering Everyone to Champion a Violence-Free Community. Children from 12 valley schools were honored for their participation in the peace poster and poetry contest. Master of ceremonies was Cory McCLoskey of FOX 10 News. The Awards MC was Ray Villa of MSR and the City of Mesa's Mayor proclamation was read by Bill Peters, Mesa PD. Awards were also given honoring veterans and music students of Mesa Community College. Performances were enjoyed by the Hands of Joy Choir and the MCC Coltrane Combo. Mesa Sunrise Rotarians provided a table in the lobby for families and students to stop by for information about Rotary and of course CANDY! Congratulations Dr. Lim on a wonderful celebration were we "Think Cool, Do Good, Be Awesome".

Registration for the event is simple and easy. If you can provide our Event calendar link to your members: https://abf.civicore.com/publicLogin/index.php?action=cal, all they will need to do is click on the Mesa Event on February 21 and sign up by creating a new volunteer profile. Once completed they will be directed to our background verification site. It takes about 7-10 minutes to register.
