Denis Haberer, Rotary District 5510 Vocational Services Chairman spoke to Mesa Sunrise Rotary club on Wednesday October 5, 2011 and shared information and experiences associated with the history and purpose of the Vocational Fund, which was created to provide vocational training support to individuals seeking to upgrade their vocational skills and improve earning power and economic success. District 5510 provides financial support to a number of men and women annually, who meet specific criteria and follow the program guidelines.

Dr. John Molina, CEO of Phoenix Indian Medical Center spoke to the Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club on October 12, 2011 and updated the club on the hospital and the important community and social services programs provided. Dr. Molina is an inspiring speaker who discusses the process of his education and the personal development that has culminated in his passion for the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, which provides services to the many Native American Indian tribes in Arizona.

New banners provided by Teri Davis, owner of Sierra Signs & Services Inc., who is our most recent potential club member, Teri owns her own sign and banner business in Mesa, and provided the banners for the Mesa Sunrise Rotary club's recent Bike Run Fundraiser, which was held on Saturday October 15, 2011 in Mesa. Emmett and Tiffany Jones co-chaired the event and it was supported by many of the club members.

A catered pulled pork and barbequed chicken dinner was provided at the culmination of the bike run at Rooster's Bar & Grill in Mesa, catered by Art Froelich, club member and owner of The Grill on Main, located at 124 West Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85201 (480) 464-3555.

Laura Kalb, Rotary District 5510 Ambassadorial Scholar to Amman, Jordan, visited the Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club on October 19, 2011 and shared information with the club about the extraordinary year she spent in the middle Eastern country of Jordan. Laura speaks Arabic and her educational emphasis is cultural diversity and conflict management. Laura visited all of the Rotary clubs in the country of Jordan and worked on several community and Rotary service projects during her year in Jordan. She provided maps and historical information about the many sites and cities within the country of Jordan that hold historical and religious significance for Jews, Muslims and Christians. Laura hopes to return to Jordan next year to continue her work with several local communities there.

Westwood High School Mesa Sunrise Rotary Student of the Month Pannah Poch visited the club on October 19, 2011 and shared her academic and future career plans with the club. Pannah's mother and father, as well as Westwood High School Counselor Anita Williams, who regularly  attends Rotary club meetings with students from Westwood High School to receive the award, were also in attendance. Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club selects one student from Westwood High School each month during the school year as the Student of the Month. One of the Students of the Month will be selected to receive the annual Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club Student of the Year, and receives a $500 scholarship to go towards their academic tuition expenses.
